Sobriety...food...happenings...
So, some of you know I had a pretty bad kidney infection and now I've pretty much recovered-finished my antibiotics and all that shit. I've been sober now for 10 days now and let me tell you it was fucking hard. Basically, I was drinking all day every day just to be able to function normally and my body totally paid the price. I reached a point where I wasn't even really drinking to get drunk anymore I was drinking because it was my fuel, it helped me function- I know, not cool. Drinking just seemed so normal to me. I would wake up, feel shitty till I took a shot then I would go about my day. If I was about to party I would take 4 shots of jack before I headed out then continue to drink throughout the night. (Yeah, my poor liver and kidneys. ) The sad part was that people couldn't even tell that I was drinking so much because I really don't lose my inhibitions when I drink. I'm not goofy or crazy-just normal. I could probably out drink many grown ass men no problem. I'm not even trying to brag. It really sucks. I wish I could have 1 or 2 drinks and be good for the night, but that would have barely any effect on me. I'm not a cheap date.
Detoxing was a total bitch for me. Aside from suffering the pains of a terrible kidney infection, I was riddled with bad depression fatigue and then insomnia, terrible anxiety, mood swings, and I felt physically weak. It was a total mind fuck, but you know I guess it was a blessing in disguise. I don't think I would've slowed down on my own. I'm not sure how long I will stay completely alcohol free, but at least this will help lower my tolerance a bit and I'll just try my best not to drink too much. I'll try to moderate things. We'll see. Also it was funny being sober for a while. Really helps you weed out who's really there for you and who's just around for a pretty drunk face...
I'm definitely not feeling as bad as I did last week. I bought some women's vitamins, wellness formula supplements, and healthy trinity probiotics from whole foods. Trying to get healthier and all. I seriously neglected my health for so long...vitamins are a start I guess. =P
I finally got my internet fixed. Fucking Time Warner sucked in my neighborhood. It took twice as long to open web pages which was driving me fucking bananasandwich. Anyways, thought I'd post some food shit that I've been meaning to post for a while, but everytime I would start to write, I would begin to nod off because of my fatigue. I seriously felt like a mindless zombie most of last week. Which sucks because I'm trying to get my calendar started and I feel like I missed a whole week that I could have spent shopping for the costumes and what not. This is going to be a huge project and I need it ready for print by early May!
Okay on to the food and shit.
Hamburger Habit (click photos to see full sizes)
First what I wore...
^I luv this Hello titty shirt that my sister got for me when I bought my new boobage. =) Pink skull tank-hot topic, shoes- Steve Madden, gray leggings- lvlx, gray hat-Target only $12!
^ Close up of hello titty. =P I have a huge collection of funny printed tshirts and tanks. I usually wear tshirts (i cut off the tops) or tanks when I go out or when I go to work. I always dress casually and comfortably, unless I'm going on a date. I don't even really comb my hair, which is why I wear hats a lot. =P I'm a lazy ass. Well, I just don't like strangers bothering me when I'm out and about, so I try to keep my daily clothes simple.
First off, I enjoy fancy restaurants and being wined and dined, but I fucking love hamburgers. Before I had to start watching my weight I would eat hamburgers and fries every other day. I still eat burgers once or twice a week if I'm doing the low carb deal, I just cut the bread and fries. Hamburger Habit is a clean 50's style restaurant that's actually one of my favorite burger/sandwich joints in LA. When I first moved to west LA in '99 I lived a few blocks away and I would walk there with l my little niece at least once a week to enjoy one of many favorites that they have to offer. Now that I live a bit further away, I still get food from there often.
^Cute clean whimsical decor. Lots of coca cola memorabilia. They play old 50's diner music. Which is great, reminds me of my grandparent's music. Music that evokes fantasies of the good ol' days.
^The extensive menu. They also have funny signs like "Be Nice or Leave Please" and "Come Back Soon, We Need the Money!" It's cute. It really matches the fun attitude of some of the OG workers in this joint. Lots of cool characters running the place. =)Hamburger habit uses high quality lean ground chuck steak for their burger meat. Like in-n-out, the meat is fresh delivered fresh, never frozen, daily, but in-n-out has super tiny meat patties. Don't get me wrong, I like in-n-out's cheesy double doubles with their creamy secret sauce, but let's face it, the meat is almost non existent, even in the double double. I always end up with half a sandwich with no meat at all pfsh. In-n-out has better secret sauce, that's all.
Hamburger Habit has a great menu with lots of choices other than the regular burger and fries. Some of my favorites are the Archie Bonker ( Grilled polish sausage with spanish onions, mexican tomatoes, mustard, mayo and lettuce on a french roll), My chikity (chicken sandwich), The works (chili cheese burger), The Habit forming (patty melt with swiss cheese and grilled onions on toasted rye). They also have veggie and turkey burgers, hot buttered corn on the cob, and fresh squeezed orange juice that is always fucking delicious. I get 2 of their fresh ojs whenever I come in. Mix it it with gin when I get home. (haha i'm so ghetto... sippin' gin n juice...well none of that for a while)
For this trip, I had the habit forming and my friend got the chicken sandwich with bacon. OMG the bacon. Hamburger Habit has THE BEST BACON on their sandwiches. It's super thick and crisp. I've never had better bacon on a sandwich anywhere. Actually, after I introduced Hamburger Habit to this friend, he started going like every day and he still eats there a few times a week. The workers know him so well now and always give him 2 for1 coupons that other people bring in, so he can reuse them. haha. Speaking of the service, these guys are awesome. Some of them are the same guys that worked there back in '99. They are friendly, witty, and full of great personality. It's a great neighborhood joint.
The food...
^The Habit forming patty melt
The ground chuck steak is always good. Plenty of swiss cheese...creamy...oozy...yummy. The rye bread is nicely toasted, but my favorite is the perfectly carmelized grilled onions. They are so sweet and the perfect texture.
^My chikity with BACON!
This chicken sandwich is always good. I love the the tangy sauce that they use. The lettuce and tomato is always fresh. The fries are always crisp and fresh.
The bacon...
I don't know if you can see just how thick and perfectly cooked this bacon is. If you like bacon on your sandwiches...this is the place to try in LA. In-n-out doesn't even offer bacon on their burgers!Another reason why I love this place...
They have jalepeno tabasco which I love to mix with my ketchup. Why don't they have it at all hamburger joints. Its fuckin' good meng. Oh and they give out those yummy mexican caramel lollipops. They are a nice treat. I keep them in my car to snack on every now and then. They are creamy, sticky, and sort of have a hint of rum flavor which I like.
Guess that's all. Soon I'll do a quick blog about simple self portraiture tips as requested by
miu miu and of course more food. =) xoxo
