  • The Ivy and the Cheesecake Contest

So this is something I was supposed to post last month. I'm really backed up...
I went to the Ivy by the Shore again. I go to this Ivy all the time. The food, service, and ambiance is a lot better than the Ivy in Beverly Hills.
<before the date. Yeah it's my infamous stick-up-the-ass pose. This is what I look like when I'm posing hungry and sober. Not sexy. I need to fuel up on food and booze... Not really feeling the makeup forever hd powder. kinda makes me look chalky with on camera flashes. I'll stick with mac mineralized skin finish when I feel like using foundation....
The Ivy has a nice drink menu with lots of fun cocktails and a decent wine list. I think I've ordered most of their cocktails, but especially  like ordering champagne with fresh peaches, the palmetto punch, and the rum boogie.
The food at the Ivy by the Shore is really good. I especially like the lobster dishes. They also have good oysters in curry sauce. The portions are pretty big and the food quality is outstanding. The service is fast, friendly, and accommodating like a good lover.
My favorite dish at the Ivy by the Shore is the lobster ravioli. I always order it. The sauce is so yummy and the ravioli is always cooked to perfection. This time I ordered it as an appetizer instead of a main course, and I kind of regretted it because I wanted MORE.

<My main course was crab stuffed lobster. When ordering lobster you can get it plain or rubbed with cajun spices. I always get mine spiced. The sides are really good. Those aren't mashed potatoes. It's cauliflower, which is yummy and makes this dish good for a low carb diet. (just skip the lobster ravioli)
<The lobster with linguini. This is really good. The ivy has their pastas down.
We ordered a cheesecake to go for

    The cheesecake contest...

<The Ivy Cheesecake (left) Cheesecake Factory's original (right) mmm I'm getting hungry.
    Cheesecake Contest
I love cheesecake and I've tried many cheesecakes from all kinds of places from pie joints to fancy restaurants. Although some high end restaurants like the Gramercy Tavern in New York have outstanding and unbeatable specialty cheesecakes, I have to admit that Cheesecake Factory's original cheesecake is still one of my faves because it's not too sweet and it's easy to obtain in a few minutes at the counter. I usually order it with a side of whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

Well, I discovered that the Ivy by the sea had an equally delicious cheesecake with a homemade cookie crust. I order it every time I go to the Ivy. It's especially good when ordered with a $100 glass of Chateau d'yquem, Sauternes 1990...mmmm.... My date and I couldn't choose which was a better traditional cheesecake, until we decided to order both for a taste test.

t the ivy's cheesecake sort of has a hint of lemon and vanilla. It's good, but almost distracting. It's also a little sweeter than the cheesecake factory cheesecake. I like how cheesecake factory's cheesecake is more traditional. Not too sweet...it has that sour cream on top to make it a bit tangier. I do love the homemade cookie crust of the ivy's cheesecake. Cheesecake factories is a bit fluffier in texture.

The results-They are both yummy. While the Ivy's is denser and a little more decadent in flavor,  I actually prefer cheesecake factory's original cheesecake a little more. The flavor is all about good ole' traditional cheesecake...no bells and whistles. Also, it's easier to pick up a cheesecake at the cheesecake factory. You don't have to have valet watch your car while you run in...

  • November...

Here are some random pictures from November. No time to write details, but at least it's something...

<Held Rex for the first time, or should I say she was holding the shit out of me. The scab just went away. =P

  • Time - Pink Floyd

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say

    Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
Its good to warm my bones beside the fire
    Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

This is one of my all time favorite songs from one of my favorite records, "The Dark Side of the Moon"-it's a great album lyrically and musically.
I have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music. I love everything from hip hop, to classic rock, to electronic, but this album is always on rotation in my play lists. This song especially speaks to me during this time of year. -sigh-

  • Joe's Restaurant in Venice

I went to Joe's again for the second time last night. Joe's Restaurant is a nice casual California-French joint on Abbot Kinney. The decor is simple and clean. The restaurant gets pretty crowded, and it can seem a bit loud at times, but the walls are covered with large paintings, which sort of helps absorb some of the noise. The food is great and reasonably priced. The service is EXTREMELY SLOW. Our servers were pretty bad when it came to timing. It took so long for us to get our dishes, which is what I remembered last time.  I had a 5 wine flight to go with my tasting menu, and they pretty much had terrible timing when it came to bringing out my drinks. They sort of just brought me a half glass every after I would be sitting with an empty drink for a while. They also didn't explain to me what I was drinking, which was pretty bad. The servers weren't rude or anything. They just weren't very good servers for such a happening place.

<What I wore to dinner...BCBGMaxAzria dress. It's a really comfy dress. The boots are BCBG, too.

I had the 5 course tasting my date had the same but with fish substitutions for the meat dishes, as usual.

Chico- tomato, cucumber, avocado. Not as refreshing as I would have liked it to be, but good
<Amuse-Quail egg, pork. Simple, t  asty and well flavored.
<Venison Carpaccio, grapes, greens, cider vinaigrette. The meat wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. The overall flavor was good, but I wish I had the tuna tartar that my date substituted for this dish.
<Swordfish with clams. This was really good. The clams were tasty, the fish was the perfect texture. I loved the creamy flavors and the roasted corn combined with the clam. This made up for the not so great carpaccio. <Wagyu beef. Cooked to perfection. The meat melted in my mouth. The flavors were outstanding.
<Honorable mention-my date's salmon. So delicious and creamy. Like butter.
<Dessert chocolate bread pudding with bananas and caramel whiskey sauce. This was really good. Sweet, moist, sticky. mmmm... I liked it a lot the sauce gave the dessert a nice kick in the vagina.

The food is great. The service is decent. If you're pressed for time, don't order a meal composed of too many courses. This is a good place to go to if you like to do lots of talking between meals. Sit back drink and enjoy your company while you wait for your meals. If the diarrhea that spills out of your dates mouth makes you want to stick knives in your own ears then down his/her throat, try another joint.

  • Patterns Form performance

My sister's band performed at Bar Sinister in Hollywood on Saturday. I went there to take some photos of the performance. Here are some pics that I took and some other random snapshots of me being my happy drunk self. (Click photos to see larger versions)
<A pic with my sis right before her performance. My new haircut makes me look more Asian. =)
<The band performing. My sister is so theatrical.
<She sings in some songs, and when she doesn't, she wears a mask and dances.

I took way more pics of the band, but you get the gist.
<Waiting for the restroom. I got this dress from Bebe a while back.
    <Making friends.

We ate at some diner afterward. We were with some master pickup artist who got those two random girls from the restaurant to come eat with us. I met him before at the pickup artist party. Nice dude. The girls ended up being real sweethearts, too. I think one is a 7th grade math teacher. haha.
<I liked how the pink cows were staring down at me while I enjoyed my medium steak and eggs with some chili cheese fries.

Oh btw I went to the specialist on Thursday for my ear. I guess my eardrum isn't really pumping the way it's supposed to, which is why it sounds like I'm yelling in my own ear when I talk. I guess my shit's really fucked up. I am taking steroids for now to see if that will help get my ear moving the way it should. It pisses me off because steroids fucking suck! They come with the worst side effects including a weakened immune system, irritability, trouble sleeping, upset stomach....and just a bunch of other bullshit that I don't want to deal with on top of being fucking half deaf. =( Basically if the steroids don't work, I'll have to have god damned surgery on my ear, which is so lame. I wanted my next surgery to be something cool like a cleft chin implant. Oh well. I guess I'll have to wait a while longer before I can look like Gaston.
    Guess that's all.

  • Halloween night '08

So most of the Halloween pics are on on my sister's camera, but I was able to snap a few on my camera before the battery died. I'll just post some of what I have for now.

Before we got ready we walked to some pretty good italian restaurant that Cobb picked called Mona Lisa. (he's originally from the Bay area) The decor was nice and whimsical. Kinda funky and tacky, but fun at the same time. I liked it. The walls and ceilings are covered with murals. They have lots of autographed photos of celebs like Chewbacca raving about the delicious food, lining the walls, which is always fun. The kitchen is open and exposed to the dining area, which made it sort of hot, but it smelled soooo good. Mona Lisa has an extensive menu, and the food is delicious. I had the veal pizzaiola which was outstanding. The price was decent, too. I think my dish was about $26. Anyways, I also nibbled on everyone else's dishes, the black squid linguini,  oso buco, and bisteca MariaSista (gorgonzola steak) were all fricken great. We shared a bottle of chianti and 2 desserts.  I took a few crappy pics with my phone.
<Mona Lisa restaurant. The gentleman in the suit almost makes it look like a fancy joint till you notice  the rhinestone cow girl and a raver boy dining with him.

<Veal pizzaiola with spinach and pasta. Huge portions and so good!

The restaurant was far and it was getting late, so we went to the bar next door to get a quick round of lemoncellos and headed back to our hotel to get dressed.
<Rushing through the tunnel to get to our hotel. I was surprised to see that there were no homeless folks down there.

I was quite disappointed in most of the costumes that I saw around SF. I was thinking that I'd be seeing lots of creative and decked out getups, but I mostly saw store bought costumes. It's not like my costumes are ever super outrageous, but people in SF dress so creatively, and then they come out with boring store bought costumes. boo. Well, there were some decent costumes, but for the most part, we just saw a bunch of snow whites and boring shit. They weren't even the slutty versions of generic characters. It looked like stuff you could get at Party City or Target.

By the time we got to the room we only had a few minutes to get ready and leave, so I didn't get to do my hair or makeup the way I wanted to. Eh, oh well. We wanted to get out in time to get enough  drinks before last call.

This Halloween we were in San Francisco, so we decided to go to Inferno Paradiso. The venue had 3 rooms, I think. One of them had a nice theatre where they had live stage performances that were really interesting.
<Me with my sisters. (one being her parasitic twin)

    <Jealous much?

< I'm not sure how many people took a photo with him like this, but I'm sure he was loving it.

After the party we went to the liquor store to get some water...
    <and bananas.
<this is what happens when you give a drunk bitch in an army costume a banana...
<I'm almost too embarrassed to post this, but look at that sweet ass. hahaha....jackass
<oh that banana gave me minutes of fun, I tells ya.

I'll post more of Halloween shit later.
